Star Casino Construction Begins Next Year
As reported by the Mississippi
Clarion-Ledger: "Construction is expected
to start early next year on Emerald Star Casino
and Resort in Natchez, which will include as
part of the development the mansion where Confederate
President Jefferson Davis married a Natchez
aristocrat.
"The
Briars Bed and Breakfast perches on a bluff
above the Mississippi River where Florida developer
Charles Cato plans to anchor a casino barge.
Jefferson Davis married Varina Howell in 1845
at The Briars.
"Construction
is expected to be completed by the end of November
2006 and the casino would open later that year.
"This
month, the Mississippi Gaming Commission approved
for the second time the gaming site and site
plans for the proposed Emerald Star Resorts
Inc. casino. The commission also gave Emerald
Star Resorts the OK to proceed after the company
showed financing for the $67 million project
had been secured…"
