Poll:
Iowans Want to Keep Lottery Machines
As reported by the Des Moines
Register: "A majority of Iowans are unwilling
to pull the plug on the Iowa Lottery's new TouchPlay
machines, but they're also mostly opposed to
allowing more of the devices in stores and bars.
"A
new Des Moines Register poll shows the state's
adults are divided over the future of the TouchPlay
machines, which closely resemble slot machines
and already number in the thousands.
"Asked
about three options facing the Legislature,
41 percent of Iowans want state leaders to get
rid of TouchPlay machines that have already
been installed at more than 2,600 locations
across the state — including supermarkets,
taverns, convenience stores, tanning salons
and self-service laundries.
"…Twenty-six
percent of the state's adults take the opposite
view in the Iowa Poll, conducted Jan. 21 to
24. They would allow more of the devices to
be installed as long as rules are followed.
"…Straddling
the fence are the 27 percent of Iowans who would
permit the continued use of TouchPlay machines
already in stores and taverns, but prohibit
the installation of more devices…"
