Gambling Age Could Rise
As reported by the Olympian:
"Washington's legal gambling age could
change from 18 to 21 if House Bill 2872 passes.
"Most
people are surprised that the legal gambling
age isn't 21, said bill sponsor Mary Helen Roberts,
D-Edmonds.
"…The
bill's scope is too broad, said Rep. Steve Conway,
D- Tacoma. He suggested creating a task force
on gambling that would handle issues addressed
in the bill.
"…If
the bill passes, it would affect sales of the
Washington Lottery by $13.7 million, said Lynn
Maier of Washington Lottery. A tracking study
they conducted showed that 18- to 20-year-olds
make up 4 percent of scratch ticket sales and
1.5 percent of Lotto sales…"
