Defends Pennsylvania Casino Project
As reported by the Brown and
White: "Barry Gosin, a partner in BethWorks
Now and CEO of Newmark and Company, defended
the development of the Bethlehem Steel site
during a community forum at Broughal Middle
School on Monday.
"The South
Bethlehem Historical Society hosted the forum
to help answer the questions raised by community
members.
"…Gosin
said BethWorks Now, the investment group that
owns the old Bethlehem Steel plant, plans for
the 129-acre site to include restaurants, retail
stores, a museum, a casino, a PBS live studio
and possibly a residential area.
"Many
Bethlehem residents questioned how the plans
would affect the existing commerce in town and
whether BethWorks Now would be staying if the
project was successful. The residents also discussed
the necessity of the casino.
"'Personally,
I think a Target or Wal-Mart would be more obnoxious
to this community and its commerce than a casino,'
Gosin said.
"…Las
Vegas Sands Corp. has agreed to develop a slot
machine casino there, if Bethlehem receives
one of the 14 gaming licenses Pennsylvania is
issuing for slot machine gambling…"
