Governor Suggests Pension Proposal
As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times:
"Gov. Blagojevich today will suggest diverting
cash from the future sale of Illinois' disputed
10th casino license to reduce the $38 billion
shortfall facing the state's public pension
systems.
"…The
idea involving the sale of the license once
earmarked for the Emerald Casino could generate
as much as $500 million, though the administration
acknowledges that license might not be available
for the state to sell during the next year because
of continuing legal wrangling.
"…A
top Republican budget expert, however, dismissed
the idea outright because no one has any idea
when the 10th license will come back online
and become a possible cash cow for the state…"
