Maine Board
to Issue Licenses

Daily News: "The Maine Gambling Control Board
is slated today to issue several licenses crucial
to Penn National Gaming Inc.'s plans to bring slot
machines to Bangor.
"During a meeting at the state Department
of Public Safety's headquarters in Augusta, gambling
control board members will hear the results of suitability
background checks conducted on Penn National, which
is seeking a slots operator license; International
Gaming Technologies, which applied for a slots distributor
license; and some of the companies' key executives.
"…That subcommittee will discuss the
possibility of bringing all gambling activity in
Maine under the gambling control board's jurisdiction.
"…Penn National has held a conditional
slots operator license since last November. The
permanent license could not be issued, however,
until the state completed a mandated suitability
investigation.
"…IGT, headquartered in Reno, Nev.,
is the first of three companies that submitted applications
for slots distributor licenses.
"…A state gaming license is one of two
permits Penn needs in order to operate a slots facility
in Maine…"
