Task Force Prepares for Applications

Post-Gazette: "As details about Pittsburgh's
three competing casino proposals emerge, the
city's Gaming Task Force is preparing for a
commensurate increase in what has so far been
a light workload.
"The
task force hopes to attract a few volunteer
experts to help them wade through the reams
of financial projections, traffic studies and
other complex information included in the 'community
impact statements' compiled by each of the casino
applicants.
"…In
a meeting yesterday, the group said it hopes
to add experts from the fields of traffic, architecture
and financial auditing, as well as volunteers
from the neighborhoods that would be affected
by the proposed casinos.
"…The
task force also hopes to get some answers from
the applicants themselves -- Detroit businessman
Don Barden is pitching a casino on the North
Shore, Isle of Capri and the Pittsburgh Penguins
want to build a casino and new arena in the
Lower Hill, and Forest City Enterprises and
Harrah's Entertainment want to erect a Station
Square casino…"
