Powerball
Jackpot Grows to $290 Million
Saturday's Powerball jackpot
has grown to an estimated annuity value of $290
million or $141.9 million cash. A single winning
ticket sold in Pennsylvania for the drawing
would be the largest prize ever won from the
Pennsylvania Lottery.
The 18-draw run
leading to Saturday night's drawing began Aug.
13. Saturday's jackpot is the fourth largest
Powerball jackpot in the game's 13-year history
and the largest jackpot offered since the May
28 drawing.
Two
Pennsylvania Lottery tickets matched 5-of-5
winning Powerball numbers for a $200,000 prize
in Wednesday night's drawing; one of the tickets
had been purchased with the PowerPlay option.
The $200,000 prize was multiplied by the drawing's
PowerPlay number, 5, for a total prize of $1
million cash. The enhanced version of Powerball
that began on Aug. 28 doubled the second-tier
prize from $100,000 to $200,000, giving players
a chance to win a PowerPlay-enhanced prize of
$1 million cash. A $1 million PowerPlay ticket
also was sold in York County for the drawing
on Oct. 5.
Due
to the large jackpot and anticipated increase
in ticket sales for Saturday night's drawing,
the Pennsylvania Lottery advises players to
purchase their Powerball tickets early to avoid
the last-minute rush. The Lottery also reminds
players to play responsibly.
The
Pennsylvania Lottery has sold nine jackpot-winning
Powerball tickets since joining the multi-jurisdictional
game in June 2002. Currently, the largest prize
awarded from the Pennsylvania Lottery was $110.2
million cash from the May 8, 2004, Powerball
drawing. The annuity value of that jackpot was
$212 million.
Powerball
tickets are sold in 29 participating jurisdictions
-- 27 states, the District of Columbia and the
U.S. Virgin Islands.
