Powerball
Jackpot Reaches Record Amount
The estimated Powerball jackpot
for Saturday evening has not only reached a
new Powerball record, but also a new world record
lottery amount of $365 million! Even though
the grand prize was not awarded Wednesday, 2,450,454
players across the nation won more than $22.2
million in prizes in America's Game.
The
cash option for the Saturday, February 18th
drawing will be an estimated $177.3 million.
The
numbers drawn Wednesday evening were 3, 13,
35, 39, 40 and the Powerball was 37. The Power
Play multiplier was 5.
Fourteen
players correctly matched the 5 white numbers
and won $200,000. Their winning tickets were
purchased in Minnesota (1), Missouri (2), Nebraska
(2), Pennsylvania (4), South Carolina (1), South
Dakota (1), and Wisconsin (3). Two additional
players not only matched the 5 white, but also
wisely purchased the Power Play option multiplying
the $200,000 by 5 for a total win of $1,000,000
each. Those tickets were both purchased in Indiana.
One
hundred thirty-two players matched 4 white numbers
plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Twelve additional
winners of that prize category also purchased
the Power Play option, giving them a total win
of $50,000.
More
than 238,000 winning Powerball players multiplied
their prize by 5 Wednesday. They were able to
do that by purchasing the Power Play option
for one dollar. With Power Play you multiply
your Powerball winnings 2-5 times, except for
the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing
a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.
Players
should carefully check their tickets after every
draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there
are always tens of thousands of winners at other
prize levels.
Players
purchased more than $101.7 million worth of
tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night.
The lotteries sold approximately 2 billion in
Powerball tickets in FY05. That translates into
more than $600 million for worthwhile state
projects.
Powerball
is now played in 28 states, the District of
Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
