Canadians
Flock to Washington Casinos
As reported by the Bellingham
Herald: "Bus hostess Jeannette Lalonde
knows how to keep a party going.
"On
Wednesday morning, the retiree from Surrey,
B.C., escorted more than 50 Canadians on a shuttle
down to Nooksack River Casino.
"…For
six years, Wally and his wife Grace Bond, retirees
in their 80s, have hopped a charter bus from
Surrey to the casino twice a week.
"They
love to gamble but refuse to set foot in Canadian
casinos.
"…Marg
Cartland of Cloverdale, B.C., who regularly
rides shuttles to Nooksack's casino and Lummi
Nation's Silver Reef Casino, believes Canadian
casinos are more regimented because they are
controlled by local government.
"…Shuttles
from Vancouver, B.C., to Chilliwack, B.C., pick
up gamblers in the morning, shuttle them to
the casino and then drive them back after four
or five hours.
"…Regulars
who cross the border to gamble said they prefer
the environment in American casinos - free drinks,
door prizes, looser slot machines and waitresses
who remember your name…"
