Yarmouth
Bets on Casino Jobs, Tourism
As reported by the EDP 24: "Plans
to open a third casino in Yarmouth would create
up to 70 jobs and provide a huge boost to tourism,
it is being claimed.
"Palatial
Leisure's proposal to spend £2m on converting
part of its bingo hall into a casino will be
considered by the borough council's development
control committee on Thursday.
"Managing-director
Patrick Duffy said the casino would prove a
huge draw on top of the success of its Palace
Bingo Club, which opened in July after the £5.5m
conversion of the town's former Tesco store
in Church Plain.
"…Mr
Duffy said he had received unanimous support
at a meeting with residents on Monday, and as
part of their policy of being good neighbours,
his firm would extend their CCTV to cover the
flats' entrances.
"…Mr
Duffy said the casino would bring far more benefits
than a so-called super-casino, for which Blackpool
was the front-runner to clinch the first UK
licence.
"…It
is calculated that the casino would generate
about 2000 customers a week, with part of this
number being existing bingo customers…"
