Kansas
Bill Heads to Senate
As reported by the Kansas City
Star: "A bill authorizing two casinos and
slot machines at dog and horse tracks, including
the Woodlands, could be debated in the Senate
as early as Thursday.
"The
bill earmarks 75 percent of the state's share
of gambling revenue for schools and 25 percent
for local property tax relief.
"The
property tax reduction would send about $10
million to Johnson County, $8 million to Sedgwick
County and $2.5 million to Wyandotte County.
"Supporters
said they were optimistic, but casinos and slots
had never gained Senate approval anywhere outside
of American Indian reservations.
"…Before
sending the bill to the full Senate, the Federal
and State Affairs Committee Tuesday altered
the bill in an effort to improve its chance
of passage…"
