Not Tax Foreigners' Casino Winnings
As reported by the Vietnam
Economy: "Foreign casino and jackpot winners
may not have to pay personal income tax (PIT) on
their winnings per recent General Department of
Taxation (GDT) proposals.
"The GDT is currently mulling whether or not
to tax casino winners, and is reportedly leaning
towards exemption.
"Some analysts argue that foreigner casino
winnings must be taxed either 10%, as with earnings
from local lotteries, or 25% as regular income of
non-resident foreigners in Vietnam.
"But GDT does not share the same view. Do
Thi Thin, Head of the Personal Income Tax Section
under GDT, cited several reasons against taxing
winnings saying that, unlike domestic lottery awards,
all casino and jackpot players already pay a special
consumption tax (SCT)…"
