Mayor: Let People Decide About Casino

Sun: "The people should decide whether
they want a casino in downtown Brandon but shouldn't
weigh their choice on the fact it would be native-owned
and operated, says Mayor Dave Burgess.
"…However,
he said people should be asked to simply state
their preference for a casino and not make the
vote a referendum on race.
"…'We would have to have a plebiscite
again. However, I didn't like the last one.
If we have one again, fine, but it should be
a clean-cut question … there should be
no cause for stirring up the racial tension
we had three years ago. It was unnecessary and
I hope the provincial government doesn't do
that again.'
