Expanded
Gambling Narrowly Approved for Oaklawn Park
As reported by the Thoroughbred
Times: "Voters in Hot Springs, Arkansas,
narrowly approved a measure on Tuesday allowing
Oaklawn Park to offer electronic games of skill.
"In
the special election, 9,401 people voted and
the measure passed by 89 votes.
"Terry
Wallace, Oaklawn's director of media relations,
said purses at the track could increase 60%
a day from $250,000 to $400,000 with the expanded
gambling.
"The
Arkansas Racing Commission has yet issue a definition
for electronic games of skill, although such
games are generally similar to video poker.
"Shelby
McCook, racing division manager for the commission,
said the commission would work with a consultant
on the issue and probably provide a definition
in January..."
