Kansas
County Approves Casino Vote
As reported by the Wichita
Business Journal: "Bob Knight says he's
serious about putting a destination casino in
Harvey County.
"On Monday, Harvey County commissioners
said they want to gauge that seriousness, approving
a non-binding mail ballot to assess voter support
for a $300 million, 2,500-job destination casino
and resort along I-135 near the Sedgwick County
line.
"The vote, which will cost Harvey County
about $20,000 will take place sometime before
the first of the year, Harvey County Commissioner
Ken Meier says.
"It's the vote Knight sought and failed
to get from Sedgwick County Commissioners, a
gesture of county support required by Gov. Kathleen
Sebelius before she'll sign off on a casino
by the Foxwoods Development Company, which Knight
represents.
"…The casino proposal took Meier
by surprise, but he says that putting the issue
before the public was a simple decision…"
