Betting Deal Gets Men 5 Years, Fines
As reported by the Associated
Press: "Federal authorities have recovered
$9.3 million in fines, forfeitures and income
taxes from a group of men who operated an overseas
betting operation, including two who also ran
a publishing house in eastern Wisconsin.
"Duane
Pede and Jeff D'Ambrosia were convicted of violating
federal laws against an offshore bookmaking
operation in 2002 and of filing false income
tax returns.
"Pede
and D'Ambrosia co-own Gold Medal Sports, a betting
operation in the Caribbean nation of Curacao,
and they also ran a publishing house in Nelsonville
that advertised the gambling service.
"...The
two were sentenced to five years in prison and
ordered to pay more than $5.1 million in fines
and back taxes..."
