and Steven Ames Long Shots to Win PGA Championship

Tiger Woods as the favourite to win his third PGA
Championship with odds at 2-1. Woods, winner of
the 2005 Masters and British Open, two of the season's
first three majors, is seeking his first PGA Championship
victory in five years after winning back-to-back
titles in 1999 and 2000.
Canada's top golfers, Mike Weir and Steven
Ames are well back of the leaders according to betting
sentiment. Weir, the 2003 Masters Champion is listed
at 75-1 while Calgary's Ames is only a 125-1 favourite.
Defending champion Vijay Singh is also seeking a
third PGA Championship and appears to be Woods'
toughest competition. Singh is a 13-2 favourite
heading to the Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield.
The usual suspects top the list of bettors' favourites
with Phil Mickelson (12-1), Retief Goosen (15-1)
and Sergio Garcia (18-1) all looking for their first
PGA Championship title.
"Mike Weir has struggled this year but he's
proven he has the physical and mental capacity to
win a Major tournament," says Peter Childs,
Odds Maker, Sportsbook.com. "He's not one of
the favourites coming in but sometimes it takes
the pressure of a Major to break a great player
out of his slump. At 75-1 it would certainly be
a great payout."
As with the US Open and British Open, Sportsbook.com

The PGA Championship will be played at the Baltusrol
Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey from August
11-14, 2005. It is the first time the tournament
has been staged at Baltusrol.
