Powerball
Jackpot Reaches $205 Million
The Powerball jackpot
for the Saturday, Oct. 8 drawing has grown to
an estimated annuity value of $205 million or
$101.7 million cash. A single winning ticket
sold in Pennsylvania for this drawing would
be the second-largest prize ever won from the
Pennsylvania Lottery.
The 16-draw run leading to Saturday
night's drawing began on Aug. 13. Saturday's
jackpot is the ninth largest Powerball jackpot
in the game's 13- year history and the largest
jackpot offered since the May 28 drawing.
No ticket won the top prize in the Wednesday,
Oct. 5, drawing by matching all five white balls,
2-15-25-30-45, plus the red Powerball, 17; however,
the drawing awarded Pennsylvania's first $1
million PowerPlay prize. One PowerPlay ticket
sold in Pennsylvania matched all five white
balls for the second-tier prize. This player's
$200,000 prize was multiplied by the drawing's
PowerPlay number, 5, for a total prize of $1
million cash. The enhanced version of Powerball
that began on Aug. 28 doubled the second-tier
prize from $100,000 to $200,000 giving players
a chance to win $1 million cash.
Due to the large jackpot and anticipated increase
in ticket sales for Saturday night's drawing,
the Pennsylvania Lottery advises players to
purchase their Powerball tickets early to avoid
the last-minute rush. The Lottery also reminds
players to play responsibly.
The Pennsylvania Lottery has sold nine jackpot-winning
Powerball tickets since joining the multi-jurisdictional
game in June 2002. Powerball tickets are sold
in 29 participating jurisdictions - 27 states,
the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin
Islands.
How to play Powerball: To play Powerball, players
pay $1 and select five white balls from the
first set of 55 numbers plus a single red ball,
the Powerball, from a second set of 42 numbers.
Players may select their own numbers using a
Powerball play slip, or they may opt for computer-selected
quick picks. Players must match all five numbers
drawn plus the Powerball number to win the jackpot.
There also are eight additional ways for players
to win a cash prize.
Powerball features an option called PowerPlay.
For an extra $1 per Powerball play (game), players
can multiply their Powerball prizes by 2, 3,
4 or 5 times the original prize amount for all
prizes EXCEPT the jackpot. Prizes can multiply
up to $1 million.
