Riverboat Revenues Plan Approved

"Revenues from riverboat gambling in Lawrenceburg,
Ind., will reach Union, Fayette and Franklin
counties under a plan approved recently by the
Lawrenceburg City Council.
"Now
area officials must convince Gov. Mitch Daniels
and the Indiana General Assembly that Lawrenceburg's
'share-the-wealth' plan is sufficient and requires
no further action by the Legislature.
"…Lawrenceburg
is located in Dearborn County. Under the three-year
plan, Franklin County would receive $500,000
a year to use for operating costs. In addition,
Franklin County and eight other counties --
Union, Fayette, Decatur, Bartholomew, Jackson,
Jennings, Jefferson and Ripley -- could seek
economic development grants from a $10 million
fund this year. Funding for 2007 and 2008 is
still to be determined, but will likely increase,
Steidel said.
"…State
Sen. Johnny Nugent, R-Lawrenceburg, will present
the plan next week to the governor when the
Senate session begins. Daniels asked last spring
for a regional sharing program linked to economic
development and job creation, Nugent said…"
