Manitoba Tribal Casino Sites Picked
As reported by the Brandon Sun:
"Aboriginal leaders have pinpointed Brandon
and Dauphin among four possible sites for a
world-class hotel, casino and entertainment
centre they plan to start building this spring.
"Western
Region Tribal Chiefs have also identified land
on Rolling River First Nation and reserve land
owned by Keeseekoowenin First Nation within
Riding Mountain National Park for the proposed
$1.2-billion Red Sky Hotel and Resort/Casino
of Manitoba.
"Chief
Billyjo De La Ronde of Pine Creek First Nation
said a site will be selected by mid-March, and
shovels could be in the ground by the beginning
of April.
"…The
project financier is international firm BJ Development.
"De
La Ronde said the money is in place and the
project will include no government funding.
He said any deal with either Brandon or Dauphin
would have to include a willingness by the municipal
council to convert land to reserve status…"
