California
Tribe Present $4 Million to County
As reported by the Daily
Democrat: "The Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians
presented a $4 million check to the Board of
Supervisors on Tuesday. The money represented
the tribe's annual payment for balancing the
effects of its large casino and resort in Brooks.
"Money is typically spent in
the valley, often along Highway 16, which leads
to the casino. It can be spent elsewhere in
Yolo County as well, however. In the past, mitigation
funds have been spent on the restoration of
the Esparto High School Auditorium, installation
of double-pane windows and sound-proof doors
for area residents, and the purchase of new
equipment for fire districts in the Capay Valley
area.
"District 1 Supervisor Mike McGowan lauded
the tribe for its contribution and praised its
partnership with the county, which he called
a 'national model.'…"
