Fined for Smoking Violation
As reported by the New York
News 10 News: "The Turning Stone Resort
and Casino is one of the last public places
in Central New York where smokers can light
up. For the past two years the Oneida Indian
Nation has allowed smoking in the facility in
the wake of a state-wide smoking ban. Tuesday,

nation a fine up of to one thousand dollars
after receiving complaints.
"'It

it's a progressive type of regulation. That
being that after you receive the first complaint,
you make a phone call. Second complaint, a letter
is generated, and now a third complaint has
required us to actually visit the Turning Stone,'
said Oneida County Attorney Randal Caldwell.
"The
nation maintains it is sovereign and state and
local laws don't apply to the Turning Stone.
Nation officials also feel they're doing enough
to eliminate smoke in the facility…"
