Packer Dies
As reported by Channel 4 News:
"Kerry Packer, Australia's richest tycoon
and the man who created one day cricket, has
died at the age of 68.
"He
was known as a brash, swashbuckling businessman
with a voracious apetite for gambling, both
in the boardroom and in the casino.
"However,
Packer will be remembered most of all as the
man who transformed the game of cricket.
"...Cricket
Australia chairman Creagh O'Connor said: "One-day
international cricket is now an international
phenomena as a result of Kerry Packer."
"Packer
owned about 30 per cent of Publishing &
Broadcasting Ltd., which operates Australia's
Channel Nine television network, publishes a
swag of magazines, and has interests in Australian
casinos..."
