Offers Maddenism Odds
Catch phrases have become an
integral part of today's sports broadcasts,
with commentators livening up games by adding
their own unique style to the play-by-play commentary.
No modern-day announcer has become more famous
for his inimitable commentary than John Madden,
whose catch phrases are now commonly referred
to as "Maddenisms." With Madden working
the broadcast booth at Super Bowl XL, leading
online sportsbook PinnacleSports.com today posted
betting lines on the first Maddenism uttered
by the commentator after kickoff Sunday.
For
the first time in Super Bowl betting history,
PinnacleSports.com is allowing players to wager
on Madden's most popular cliches said during
the big game. PinnacleSports.com believes the
first catch phrase Madden will say after kickoff
will be "heck of a ... ," listed as
the favorite at 6/5 (i.e., win $6 for every
$5 bet). Classic Maddenism "big time"
is listed with the second-best odds at 7/2.
Perhaps the most famous Maddenism, "boom"
is a 7/1 long shot along with "horsecollar,"
a recent addition to the announcer's collection
of sayings. The odds that the memorable Madden
catch phrase "manhandled" or "wham"
will be the first said during the Super Bowl
broadcast stand at 9/1 and 15/1, respectively.
Players can also bet that Madden will say none
of the listed phrases during the big game at
13/2 odds.
"Proposition
bets on the Super Bowl cover literally every
aspect of the game, so it's only natural to
offer betting on which catch phrase the sport's
most famous commentator will say during this
year's broadcast," said Simon Noble of
PinnacleSports.com. "While other Maddenisms
are more well-known, the odds favor 'heck of
a ... ' or 'big time' being the first cliche
that the future Hall of Famer says Sunday."
