Hires Lobbyist
As reported by the Florida Sun-Sentinel:
"When state lawmakers meet next week to
hammer out new slot machine regulations, Hollywood
will have a heavy hitter fighting to get the
city in on the action.
"Roger
Desjarlais, the former Broward County administrator,
will be in Tallahassee Monday morning as a member
of Hollywood's team. He began work in October
as chief operations officer at the firm of lawyer/lobbyist
Bill Scherer. Hollywood hired his company, Conrad
& Scherer, in February to lobby state legislators
on the slots issue.
"Hollywood
officials feel the pari-mutuels should share
some of their profits with the city even though
none of the four sites where voters approved
slot machines in March are actually in Hollywood.
Three are in neighboring cities, and Hollywood
officials say there will be an increase in traffic
and police and fire-rescue calls in their city
once the slots arrive…"
