This would not be the first time gambling has been considered in St. Tammany. Voters banned against it in 1996.

First of a six-part series: On July 5, 2004, the hotly contested push to legalize slot-machine gambling in the state ended when Gov. Ed Rendell signed the bill allowing Pennsylvania more slots than any state except Nevada. The law authorized up to 61,000 slot machines at 14 sites.
